News related to the Top Sail Schooner Kathleen and May (see next Post) prompted me to put up this blog in haste to initially promote an interest and campaign to see the Kathleen and May brought home to Wales and berthed where she was built or at Porthmadog 'Home' of the Top Sail Schooner or at the Maritime Museum in Swansea. My interest in the Kathleen and May came about some 12 years back when at a time I had become interested in our Welsh Maritime Heritage and Tall Ships and Traditional Boats, the Kathleen and May crossed my horizon for real. Upon moving to London pre Millennium I started exploration of historic sites of interest which took me to Southwark where then she was berthed. Since she had moved to two other locations and latterly Liverpool Docks where I visited her last year, have photos which I will blog up again sometime. Over the years I have often seen Kathleen and May in photos on pub walls in the former dockland areas of Cardiff and Swansea, I am at the moment engaged in other history work but on my agenda for this year I had intended to archive my Maritime Research, Articles and photo collection to deposit at the National Maritime Museum in Swansea or at a University Library. As I get around to this, I will look out for more Info and possibly photos of the Kathleen and May. For now see links below regards information and news of her present status as being up for sale in the very near future. This means something needs to be done fast and I hope others better informed and with more time on hand may be able to further a Kathleen and May - Save For Wales - Bring her home campaign, in the first instance and like asap:
* Contact Welsh Media with letters.
* Contact your Political National and Local Representatives.
* Contact Others whom will be of good service in this campaign.
* Persons with the right Maritime and Heritage Interests need to be to the fore and set up a proper official campaigning group.
* Is there a Welsh Maritime Heritage Society, if not why not? Plus what is Wales Tourism doing about Welsh Maritime Heritage Tourism?
* Petition the Welsh Assembly and motivate Cadw to do something useful?
* Not least do keep in mindful Wales does not have a representative Tall Ship Maritime Training Vessel as does many countries, inc Ireland (see Asgard:
